History of the Paton Welding Institute
Dr. Vladimir Kachinskyi
A brief historical overview of the Paton Welding Institute which was the Eastern block welding research center before the fall of the Iron curtain.
We will explore the history of the Paton Welding Institute and Magnetically Impelled Arc Butt (MIAB) Welding with Vladimir Kachinskiy.
Vladimir Kachinskiy's Experience in the Welding Process
Since 1977, Vladimir Kachinskiy has worked in the welding department of Kyiv Polytechnic University, teaching various pressure welding processes, including flash butt, spot, seam, relief, cold welding, and MIAB welding of thick-walled pipes.
With over 40 years of experience, Vladimir has authored 85 articles and patents. His research has been widely referenced by scientists globally, aiming to achieve practical applications of MIAB welding in the industry.
Vladimir's industrial projects began in 1988, focusing on welding technology and equipment in various sectors:
- Automotive Industry: Welded over 7 million shock absorbers and air springs.
- Pipelines for Soil Cooling Systems: Applied in permafrost conditions for roads, airfields, and railways.
- Greenhouse Structures: Constructed over 120 hectares of greenhouses.
- Gas Meter Cases and Gas Cylinder Bodies: Welded in workshop conditions.
- Hydraulic Cylinder Bodies: Developed technology for 50 pipe sizes.
- Shell Casings: Welded casings in workshop conditions.
Since 2002, Vladimir has led MIAB welding projects for companies globally. He is a member of the International Institute of Welding.
