Mr. Powell is a Registered Professional Materials Engineer who has spent his entire 43 year working in materials failure analysis. After a three-year term of active duty with the US Army Corps of Engineers ending in 1976, Mr. Powell worked as a failure analyst for the US Air Force at the Physical Sciences Laboratory at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK, and subsequently as a Failure Analysis Engineer and ultimately President of Engineering and Materials Technology Corporation (EMTEC), Norman, Oklahoma. In 1992, Mr. Powell left EMTEC to continue his work in materials failure analysis with a small engineering firm in Norman, Oklahoma – Support Services Engineering Corporation (SSEC). Mr. Powell is currently President of SSEC. During his career, Mr. Powell has been a certified Level III NDT engineer and a certified armorer for both Barrett bolt action firearms and Glock handguns. For the last several years, Mr. Powell was retained in more than 100 different projects involved with defective mechanical safety system components of different firearms manufactured in the United States and other countries. His work with firearm fire control/safety systems involves traditional metallurgical and scanning electron microscopic analysis of their components as well as evaluation of high-resolution CT scanning of assembled firearms.
